This Fox can be found on the coast of Southern California. Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa are some places where these animals are located. It is hot and dry in the summer and cool and wet in the winter. These foxes migrated to be small so that not much land needed to be taken up and so that they wont eat as much. This is the tallest fox in the U.S. It is 6 inches tall and weighs about 4 pounds. They are omnivores and move around mostly at night. They have been dying due to diseases and parasites brought by other animals and being eaten by eagles. . They were first listed as threatened, but later listed as endangered. The national park suggests that sanctuaries be built to keep them from eagles and other hazardous organisms. They dont benefit or affect humans.
San Joachin Kit Fox "Vulpes macrotis mutica"
This animal is located in the chaparral(Which is ofcourse plentiful of many small plants), grasslands, and shrublands. They mostly live in things such as ditches, pipes and etc. They have long legs, a small body, big ears, and a bushy tail. This animal is nocturnal. They are omnivores and they eat squirrels, birds, plants and other organisms that are out during the night. They adapted to the chaparral's hot summers but they prefer to be out at night because its cooler. Red foxes and coyote's eat them which is a reason why they are endangered. The change in rainfall is also a reason why they are endangered. They are also dying out because of the spread of poison used to kill rats. California created a restoration group to help the population get back to normal. They are also encouraging people not to use pesticide. This organism helps by reducing the amount of rats and mice in an area.
King Protea "Protea cynaroides"
This is the national flower of South Africa. It is found in dry climates with a drainage soil like of course the chaparral of California, Australia, and south Africa. . of course this is a plant so it is a producer. The stem of the flower is 1 to 2 inches long. Their leaves are small and they look like spoons. The flower's petals are a pinkish color while the inside of the petals are yellow.Their leaves are used to make tea and they also are well known for they part in being in flower pieces. Natural fires are being limited due to human population, so this plant's seeds are not being dispersed like they are usually dispersed. the PAP(Protea Atlas project) is helping by gathering research on how these plants can be saved.
Saltmarsh Bird's Beak "Cordy lanthus maritimus"
This plant only lives for a year and then it dies. The laves are and inch long and its petals are facing upward. This plant only grows in salt marshes in california and other places in the world. This is one of the only plants that is known to survive in extreme salty areas. This organism has salt on its outer petals. Major threats include the modernizing of the environment, and water pollution and oil spills. To help this unique plant out, they are being fenced off in some places in California to prevent grazing. These plants need to be saved because they are just a unique organism and a great addition to our society.
